Well those of you that have seen the new topless concept car revealed by Land Rover in the USA will no doubt have some strong opinions. I think it looks great but it is a clear indication that the utility market could be using their last Land Rovers.

The convertible has real drop dead good looks and, if it comes to market anything like the Concept Car, it will be a great success commercially. However, for those of us who need something a little more rugged than Miami Bling - the jury is out.

I think we have to be realistic and say that Tata is investing huge sums of money and are doing so to get a return. So I can see exactly why and where they are heading. Like a lot of other things in life small minorities are not sustainable no matter what the politicians tell us.

However, I don’t think it is fair to call this the evolution of the 'Land Rover' or the 'Defender'. This will be a new vehicle for a modern world with very different consumers. Would I like one? You bet, but I will still be keeping my Defenders and Series 1s.
