Hultafors Splitting Axe 840592
Hultafors axes are forged by hand. They have been crafted in the traditional way since 1697.
  • At Hults Bruk in Östergötland, there are smiths who carry out work that not many others are able to do.
  • Only a few producers in the world employ smiths who can produce this sort of craftsmanship. Axe heads are forged from Swedish axe steel of a consistently high quality. The steel is struck many times until the axe attains its final form. It's a costly method, but this increases the density of the steel and thereby the durability and life of the axe, particularly if you compare it to axes that are forged with only a few strikes.
  • Hultafors hardening method leaves a clear hard zone within which the axe can be sharpened whilst not detracting from the strength of the edge. Used correctly, our axes can last for generations.
  • The Splitting axe is made from blasted and clear-lacquered ironwork. It is a heavier axe ideally suited for splitting thick wood. The shaft is straight and made from hickory and is 75 cm in length. Weight is approximately 1.5 kg. After cutting tree trunks and limbs the Splitting Axe is an essential piece of kit to split logs into usable sizes for any fire. Split logs that have been left to dry for 9 to 12 months in a log shed burn much better and cleaner.
