Can anyone explain?

Some nights I like to sit in front of the TV and just be entertained. Like most people I find there is very little I would go out of my way to watch. However, Saturday night television has opened up my eyes to some highs and lows. Firstly, I am impressed at how good many people are at singing and dancing and also how badly some contestants perform. Yes, I am referring to Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor.

To see lead guitarist Brian May’s actress wife Anita, at the age of 62, flying around the dance floor superbly well has my full respect and admiration.

Now for those unfamiliar with the scheduling, Strictly is on BBC at around 7.00pm and X Factor is on ITV at 8.00pm. The press have been whipping up a storm about some of the guest stars who appear on X Factor. Apparently certain female stars have been coming on the show scantily clad and gyrating around the stage in a provocative fashion. This we are told by a number of complainants corrupts the young and vulnerable (if such a category still exists in today’s society!).

I spent last Saturday evening glued to my TV (supervised by 'She Who Must Not Be Named') watching Strictly Come Dancing. I have never seen so many attractive, scantily clad young ladies with acres of bare flesh. Now they were not gyrating  - they were moving seductively all over their partners' bodies in the most passionate of ways.

They were making moves and getting into position even I had not dreamt of. Dances like the Tango and Rumba are some of the most erotic images I have ever seen on terrestrial television. The amazing thing is that it happens every week. You have no idea how much joy it brings to an old chap like me to watch the likes of Aliona, Ola and Kristina bewitching their partners on the dance floor. If you are not tuning in you don’t know what you are missing!

So my conundrum is simple, how has 'Angry from Basingstoke' complained about the X Factor and missed Strictly? Is this a case of selective objection? Ballroom is fine but Pop is the work of the devil. Could it be that children are still doing their homework between 7.00pm and 8.00pm on a Saturday?

Having studied the subject in great depth (purely to research this blog!) I can confirm that for nakedness and eroticism the BBC wins hands down. I think my licence fee has been jolly well spent on this occasion.
